Takoja: a Lakota word meaning "Grandchild"
Weekend Lodging Rental Available
Takoja Institute was founded in the late 1980's and remains dedicated to Mother Earth and all her grandchildren. Takoja Institute is a not for profit organization dedicated to teaching individuals and groups how to be in balance and harmony with the planet, themselves, and all life. Takoja hopes each individual will in turn share what they have learned with others so that we may all survive upon this planet.
|
The committment to create Takoja Institute sprang from a moment of epiphany by founder and executive director Dr. Judith Sauceda, Ph.D., while at Machu Pichu, ancient city of the Incas, which stands high in the mountains of Peru at the same altitude as Takoja. Like the spritually fertile area surrounding the Takoja Retreat Center, Machu Pichu is seen as a crack in the universe where the eternal is revealed. "Machu Pichu was a women's village, probably for the training of priestesses and performing fertility rites," says Dr. Sauceda, "as I stood in the Kiva of the priestesses and permitted the energy of the village to sink into my soul, I vowed that I would dedicate myself to preventing the extinction of a people from occurring again." Since that fateful trip, Dr. Sauceda has called upon the "Great Spirit" to guide her in the creation of Takoja and be ever present in the philosophy of each program held at the Institute.

The Institute offers workshops in non-political contemporary issues and practices. Many of the original seminars and workshops approached avant garde status for the times, until the present time when the Institute has settled into primarily indigenous spirituality and Shamanic teachings such as individualized healings, vision quests, and mandala workshops. Takoja continues to be innovative in its approach to today's needs and maintains a varied schedule.
|
Takoja Institute is also dedicated to supporting indigenous sprituality and shamanism in many ways: scholarships, workshops, retreats, and healing. While funds are limited, anyone interested in applying for Takoja Institute support or wishing to make a donation to further the mission of Takoja Institute should send an email of inquiry to Takoja.

All donations made to Takoja Institute are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

Nestled on 40 acres 28 miles north of Taos at Ranchos Mesclados in Northern New Mexico, the Takoja Retreat Center is surrounded by magnificent landscape. Abundant recreational facilities provide many opportunities for fishing and hiking. Within a short distance of the ranch are the Taos Red River Amalia, Kit Carson National Forest, Cabresto Park, Sulphur Springs, Rio Grande Gorge Park, Latier Lakes, and the grandeur of the Villa Vidal.
|
The unique Domes of the Retreat Center are sculptured in form and sacred dimension, an artist's delight. Wildlife share their home with those who take time to listen nand observe. A 360 degree view calms the soul and causes you to revel in the miracle of life. At first light, when the sun crests the Sangre de Cristo peaks, the valley is flooded with a soft, golden ambiance, gently awakening the spirit within. Each evening, the sunsets captivate the visual senses, a reminder of Mother Earth and Father Sky's ongoing love affair. It is a peaceful haven, a place of safety and comfort, where you can begin the inner journey.
